Queensland Has Several Medical Certificates That Are Not Interchangeable
A standard medical certificate, a workers compensation Work capacity certificate, a driver medical certificate and university supporting evidence can all involve a doctor, but they solve different problems. Choosing the right document first prevents a valid consultation from producing the wrong form for the organisation receiving it.
Ordinary Workplace Absence
Use the standard personal leave route when the illness is not a workplace injury and you only need evidence for absence. The Fair Work Ombudsman explains the notice and evidence requirements that apply to personal and carer's leave.
Workers Compensation

Driving Fitness
Queensland Transport and Main Roads uses its own Medical Certificate for Motor Vehicle Driver process when a health condition may affect driving. Check the Queensland Government driver medical requirements before booking.

Queensland Transport Medical Certificate

Explain the absence
Parents or carers should tell the school why the student was absent. The explanation should generally be provided within 2 school days of the student's return, or earlier where possible.
Reasonable excuse
Illness may be accepted as a reasonable excuse, with the principal deciding whether the explanation provided is satisfactory.
Senior assessments
Year 11 and 12 students affected by illness should contact their school promptly and follow its assessment policy and applicable QCAA illness and misadventure process.
Frequent or extended absences: schools may request additional supporting evidence where there are ongoing attendance concerns or an absence affects an assessment.

A medical certificate becomes compulsory only if a Year 11 or 12 student is absent on the day of an assessment.
QLD Transport (Transport and Main Roads) requires periodic medical certificates for certain driver's licence categories, including drivers aged 75 and over and commercial licence holders with relevant health conditions. A genuine online medical certificate requires a real-time GP consultation, which cannot be provided free of charge. Telehealth GP consultations involve clinical professional time.
