Short-Term Work-Capacity Assessment
For a known or uncomplicated presentation affecting work, a real-time GP consultation can assess current function and whether a certificate is clinically appropriate. For ordinary personal or carer's leave, Fair Work explains the relevant evidence principles.
Urgent or In-Person Pathway

Recurring or Chronic Condition
A short certificate can document a current flare, but repeated or long-term management should stay connected to the regular GP or treating team. AHPRA's telehealth guidance supports appropriate clinical assessment and continuity of care.

The consultation method depends on the condition, the information needed and the GP's clinical judgement. Some presentations can be assessed by phone, while others may require video so the doctor can gather additional visual information. An in-person assessment may be recommended where telehealth is not clinically appropriate.
Yes. A medical certificate is issued only when the GP considers it clinically appropriate following the consultation. If the doctor determines that a certificate cannot be issued, you will receive a full automatic refund and an explanation of the outcome.
